On the way home, I started looking forward to sitting down to write a little bit. So, where were we? Yes, Cattle Valley.

Book three in the series is Sweet Topping, and I love this story. Kyle and Gill are so sweet together. Kyle is reluctant to start a relationship with anyone because he's not sure what he has to offer sexually. He's a paraplegic, and even though Gill assures him it doesn't matter, Kyle can't help being selfconcious. The fact that Gill goes out of his way to learn about Kyle's condition is evidence that he is crazy about Kyle...a fact that you find out earlier in the series. I love the fact that, even though Gill is the physically dominant man in their relationship, Kyle is the one who holds all the cards, and Gill is dependent on Kyle's love.

Rough Ride is book four. This is the book that introduced me to gay romance. Wyn and Ezra have been dancing around each other for a while now. Wyn's unfortunate circumstances in book one lead him to be a little gunshy of people in general, but especially men of Ezra's size. The two men have let sticks and stones keep them apart for far too long, but when Wyn needs someone he can trust to protect him, there is no one better for the job than Ezra, and Ezra is more than ready to take care of his Wyn. I absolutely loved this book. You get a good look at the other characters and members of the town, which is why I was so eager to read the rest of the series.

I have to admit that when I first started reading gay romance novels, the sex scenes threw me off a little. I mean, I am a woman...who was raised in the south...and went to a Baptist college. So it took me a while to wrap my brain around two men going at it like bunnies, not to mention the fact that it was turning me on to read it. But now that I've gotten past my squeamishness, I can say that the sex in Carol Lynne's book is HOT! Ok...enough of that...more later.

Ok, so for my first post, I figured I would start with one of my favorites. I started reading gay romance novels because of Carol Lynne's Cattle Valley series. These are the books that I keep coming back to...the ones that I read when I can't find anything else to make me happy. If you haven't read them, go get them...NOW. I was sitting down to read this book--I didn't know what it was about--I only knew it was about a rancher (I was in my cowboy phase). I was hooked after the first few pages, and after I figured out it was about 2 men, my interest wasn't dimmed in the least. I finished Rough Ride in a couple of hours, and then I had to read the rest. I wanted to know about all the characters in the book, so I ordered them from Total-E-Bound and fell in love with the entire town of Cattle Valley.

The first in the series is All Play and No Work. This is the story of Nate, Ryan, and Rio. These three men were introduced in The Good Time Boys series, and just seeing them interact makes you want more of them. Carol delivers when she loads them up and moves them to Cattle Valley. The trio works hard to build a life together in an accepting environment. I'm not going to tell you the history of Cattle Valley, but I will tell you that the town was built to be a safe haven for people with who believe that who you love isn't as important as how much love you have to give. In this first novel of the series, Nate, Ryan, and Rio are set up to be key players in all the subsequent novels. This book introduces the characters that you will grow to love as you read the series.

The second book in the series is Cattle Valley Mistletoe. This story plays right off the events in the first novel, and Casey's character suffers some of the backlash of previous events. As with any of the novels, this one can be read independently, but it is best when you know the context of the plot. Casey's position as town's reverend caused me to raise an eyebrow at first, but Casey and Hal's story simply reminded that God loves us all, and that love is His greatest gift.

I'll get to the rest...I have to go cook dinner now.
